Those of us who religiously read the letters columns in the daily press know only too well that over 90 per cent of these offerings are basically complaints about shortcomings in government or government agencies, like the Police Service or Ministry of Health.
Some letters also highlight poor service and behaviour by the private sector and private individuals.
Rarely do citizens write to the press to highlight positive achievements and exemplary behaviour, so I would like to give it a go today.
First of all,I would like to genuinely thank all of the wonderful charity organisations in T&T who have really stepped up their game during this COVID-19 pandemic. In this regard, special mention should be made of the Living Water Community for their tireless efforts on behalf of the less fortunate.
I would also like to congratulate the PNM and UNC political candidates who have been seen publicly greeting each other in a friendly manner on the campaign trail. This is an excellent example to set for the rest of us.
Also, the relatively peaceful and respectful nature of most of the campaigning must be commended.
My hope here is that one day we can mature to a level as a society that political candidates will speak well of a political rival while simply pointing out that their ideas and campaign is better.
Finally, I would like to thank the farmers of T&T who labour for long hours, come sunshine or rain, in the vital pursuit of making a meaningful contribution to the crucial role of producing healthy fruits, vegetables and ground provisions for the nation.
