I heard on the news today that Ms Ayanna Webster-Roy is recommended to be the PNM candidate for Tobago East in the upcoming General Election, based on her good performance in the last five years both locally and nationally. Really?
Is this the same Webster-Roy, Minister in the Ministry of Child and Gender Affairs, who can best be remembered for threatening to take legal action against someone for revealing her mobile number?
Is this the same Webster-Roy, Minister in the Ministry of Child and Gender Affairs, who only when there was the unfortunate multiple deaths by domestic violence, had her ministry make a series of advertised concerns but did not thereafter when the outrage of the nation seemingly died?
Is this the same Webster-Roy, Minister in the Ministry of Child and Gender Affairs, who on occasions as Women’s International Day will make huge statements in the press but does nothing tangible and meaningful thereafter to help women?
Is this the same Webster-Roy who via Mr Rambharat and in answer to a question from Mr Wade Mark did not give the true reason as to why NGOs do not want to run state Domestic Violence Shelters?
Ms Webster-Roy needs to say why she failed to have open all but one of the five facilities that the UNC government had completed and left for management and occupancy when they left office in 2015. These are facilities for men and women who have been domestically violated, and for young men leaving care homes.
Ms Webster-Roy is certainly a non performer. PNM should seek a better candidate.
