Please allow me to congratulate both Government and Opposition for general elections 2020. The descendants of slavery and indenture with their large numbers of base support voters, continue to rule T&T.
For those who wish to view the results as purely continued tribal voting, consider the thousands of citizens who now vote according to their attraction of individual candidates.
Rome was not built in a day. Neither the Peoples National Movement (PNM) nor the United National Congress (UNC) can win an election without considerable input from each other. That is the bigger picture. It is no longer just the odd skirmish into enemy territory. By 2025 this trend will increase exponentially.
And I will say it again, we are too small for third party politics. In 2020 they have all continued to remain political window dressing.
Pandemic or no pandemic, the PNM won this election because it is indeed the better of the two strong political parties. General elections 2025 will be interesting as Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has indicated that he is not interested in dying in office.
The present conundrum for the UNC is how to deal with leadership issues. Waiting in the wings is Mickela Panday who is the person likeliest to allegedly mount a campaign that could derail the UNC.
We live in interesting times. If the PNM lost one seat this year, it is par for the political course. As we say in local parlance: Yuh cyah play mas if yuh fraid powder.
