Throughout the length and breadth of our country, the presence of pot holes is a disgusting feature. There is a common saying that: “you can’t judge a book by its cover.”
Judging by the deplorable state of many of our roads, our country may be considered backward and undeveloped by visitors to our shores. No one must attempt to sweep this fact below the national carpet.
Very recently, on the highway at Trincity, a motorcyclist had an unpleasant experience which could have easily cost him his life.
Luckily, only the rim of his transport was damaged. What if he was going at a fast speed and his wheel had struck the immense hole? It is dreadful to imagine what could have possibly transpired.
Potholes are a great menace to life and limb. Many drivers try their utmost best to dodge what they perceive to be “craters.” Unfortunately, doing so can land them in head on collision with oncoming vehicles.
It is imperative that special officers be assigned to identify roads that are in need of urgent repair. The Ministry of Works And Transport can then put measures in place to deal expeditiously with the repairs of such roads.
Clearly our roads are a reflection of who we are.
