A recent front page headline in one of our dailies screamed that our country is divided by race.
What a damning pronouncement! Can that be true for the Christians among us? Are we, as Christians guilty of the sin of racial prejudice, when Jesus, the Lord whom we serve, in John 13 exhorted: “A new Commandment (not suggestion), I give to you, that you love one another, as I have loved you.”?
Joyce Meyer, Christian preacher and evangelist states: “Love should be number one on our spiritual priority list. We should study love, pray about love and develop the fruits of the Spirit-filled Christian.” In the same vein, the apostle Paul, in Galatians 3, also reminds us that there is now no distinction, “there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for you are all ONE in Christ Jesus.”
If we all are one in Christ Jesus, then where does racial hatred fit in? Do Christians have any justification to hate? No, never! Do we make it a habit to daily examine ourselves, go naked before God, and if there is any sin, any hidden root of racism lying within us, do we seek His divine grace, mercy and love to help us overcome these sins?
I pray now, that having been made aware of this horrific state of affairs in our beloved country, our ministers of the gospel would take up the mantle, recognize the urgency of our situation, and week after week after week, remind us what is our most important duty as a Christian.... to love one another as He loves us.
