The multiple world record holder was upstaged by countrymen Shane Costelloe, who led the pack with a 72 gross, and Simon Merry, who shot a 77.
In the US$70,000 professional division, T&T's Chris Richards closed Day One tied for sixth place after shooting a score of two under par 70. The leader of the group is Ron Schroeder of the United States, who shot a 67. Included in this strong field are Grant Waite of New Zealand, past winner of the US Tournament Players Championship, and Charlie Wi of Korea, who is currently ranked 126th in the world and competes regularly on the US Tour.
