Stephen Alexander from the Raiders Cycle and Multisport Club claimed the winning spot in the Elite Men's category, as the T&T Cycling Federation staged the opening of the cycling season with a keep fit event from the Foreshore in Cocorite to Couva and back on Saturday last.
However, it was his name-sake Adam Alexander, the veteran T&T endurance rider who secured the People's Prime- Chase Village event, riding for the same club- Raiders Cycle and Multisport Club.
In the Elite Men's event, the Raiders Cycle and Multisport Club dominated the top positions with only Daniel Pereira of Southclaine preventing a clean sweep with his fourth-place finish.
Otherwise, it was the Alexanders, (Stephen) taking the first position, followed closely behind by Adam Alexander in second. Liam Trepte completed a one-two-three for RCMC in third, but Pereira upset the applecart by squeezing in for the fourth place. Veteran Ako Kellar was fifth and Phillip Clarke sixth.
Later Alexander (Adam) was the winner of the prime prize in a return race from Chase Village to the Foreshore in Cocorite. Only the winner was recognised and given a prize.
Meanwhile, Raul Garcia of Madonna Wheelers claimed the winning spot among the juniors, while the pair of Titus Bharat (PSL) and Dave Cooper (Southclaine) secured a one-two finish respectively among the juvenile riders.
Team RCMC was also victorious in the Masters 50-59 and 60-69 categories. Roger Simon crossed the finish line first in the 50-59 division, being followed closely in second by Sergio Marquez-Pita of Heatwave Cycle Club and third Adam Monsterin of RCMC.
In the masters 60-69 category, Ronaldo Crooks (RCMC) held off Walter Paul of Rigtech Sonics for the gold medal. And in the masters 40-49- it was Colin Wilson of The Braves taking the win. Ramkaran Beharry (Heatwave) and Godwin George (RCMC) sealed the other two positions- second and third respectively.
Meanwhile, Phoebe Sandy of Madonna Wheelers claimed the gold medal in the Female Juniors and Kanika Paul-Payne (PSL) won the Elite Female.
