The John O'Brien trained Apocalypse will have his final race before he takes on the top-class horses in the Gold Cup on Boxing day (December 26), on Saturday when he goes to post for the feature Handicap Event over 1,750 metres on the main track at Santa Rosa Park in Arima.
Apocalypse who is the first horse to lower the colours of the Glenn Mendez-trained dual Classic winner Juice Man, whom he beat in the Caribbean Champion Stakes, will go to post with a jockey change as Rico Hernandez will partner the Anthony Wight-owned thoroughbred which has been allotted 53 kilos.
His three-year-old stablemate Making Headlines has his best chance of defeating Apocalypse in his career as he will receive five kilos from the likely favourite but on this occasion, he will have the assistance of leading rider Brian Boodramsing who is certain to be crowned champion jockey for this season.
O'Brien also has Ravishing and Trini Aviator in the line-up and both horses are not without chances. Ravishing will be ridden by Ronald Ali and Trini Aviator will be partnered by Kerron Khelawan.
Trainer Harriram Gobin has Affirmative, Tiz A Vibe and Commanding Fashion in the fray and the first-mentioned will have the assistance of leading apprentice Kimal Santo and with his weight reduced to 50 kilos, must be respected.
With Juice Man having his run in the Clasico at Gulf Stream Park on Sunday, it is imperative that Apocalypse and Making Headlines perform with credit to ensure that they will be set for their toughest assignment on Boxing Day.
A total of 50 horses have taken entry for the Arima Race Club (ARC) Day 37 six-race card.
Post time is 1.05 pm.
Here are the declared runners, riders and weights.
