Nikil Augustus of Empowered Youths was named the "Most Valuable Player" of the Concept Coaching Under-10 "Easter" Football Tournament which took place on April 13 at the Eddie Hart ground in Tacarigua.
Augustus used his skills and athleticism to help Empowered Youths win the final against FC Ginga 6-5 on penalty kicks after the scores were tied 3-3 at the end of regulation time.
Augustus scored a hat trick for Empowered Youths, opening the scoring in the fifth minute. Ginga didn't stay down for long and equalised with a goal from Jimalii Barker two minutes later.
A short while later, Ginga got the go-ahead goal from Ky-Mani Hazel, who scored the first of his double in the ninth minute, to put his team up 2-1 but that lead was shortlived as Augustus scored goal number two in the 15th to level the scores, 2-2.
Hazel though again put Ginga out front with an item in the 17th to have his team ahead at the half in the 40-minute match.
In the second half, both sides tightened up on defence as neither could hit the target until Augustus got the equaliser again in the 30th. It was the lone goal of the half as penalty kicks were needed to decide the winner. In the end, it was Empowered Youths winning, 6-5. Augustus picked another award during the closing ceremony, sharing the top-scorer honours with Ethan Collins of Forever United as each scored nine goals in the tournament. His coach Sean Sylvester received the best coach award.
In the third place match, the winner was also decided on penalty kicks after the scores were tied 4-4 at the end of regulation time. Forever United won 4-3 on penalty kicks.
