The inaugural Balmain Cricket Club T10 windball cricket tournament got off to a rousing start on Friday night with two matches at their cricket field in Balmain, Couva.
The two games saw a lot of action with a number of players using the opportunity to take part in cricket after a lengthy lockdown. /in the first match, CSK led by St Lucia Zouks player Mark Deyal scored 110/5 off their 10 overs with Ricky Sieuchan getting 69 and Videsh Sookai 24 not out. McBean in response was restricted to 73/7 - losing the match by 37 runs.
In the second game, Same Side batted first and counted 78/6 off their 10 overs to which Lunatics responded with 79/2 that to 35 from Isreal Mungroo. Earlier, Preysal player Kamil Pooran struck 34 for Same Side.
The competition continues this week leading to the finals in mid-August. Chairman of the organising committee Mistri Lutchmedial said he was happy with the first night's action. "We are happy with what we saw on the first night. The players were all disciplined, respecting the Covid 19 protocols and we will continue to ensure that they do. These players have been starved of cricket action for quite a while and they are taking this opportunity to get back on the park.
"The club intends to make this an annual affair and we want to thank our sponsors for coming onboard in difficult financial times to assist us. Their contribution is really going a long way in terms of putting smiles back on the faces of our cricketers. The support has been overwhelming and we will continue to use sport for the greater good."
