T&T's men and women beach volleyball teams of Daneil Williams and Joel Theodore, and Malika Davidson and LaTeisha Joseph advanced to the quarterfinal of the Losers draw after missing out on top two pool finishes when the 2019 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tournament continued in Aguascalientes, La Isla de San Marcos, Mexico, yesterday.
Competing in Pool A of the 16-team men’s tournament, Williams and Theodore were beaten by Nicaraguans Ruben Mora and Dany Lopez 21-19, 23-25, 11-15 and Olympians and current Pan American champions Juan Virgen and Lombardo Ontiveros of Mexico 12-21, 9-21 on Friday before beating Francis Hauze and Michael Jenkins of Belize 21-14,21-18 in their final match yesterday to end with a 1-2 record.
Virgen and Ontiveros defeated Hauze and Jenkins 21-10, 21-14 in their first match while the latter pairing was also defeated by Mora and Lopez 13-21, 12-21 last night.
And in the pool decider, Virgen and Ontiveros beat Mora and Lopez 21-18, 21-13.
Last night in the losers quarterfinal for positions ninth to 16th, Williams and Theodore came up against St Kitts/Nevis duo, St Clair Hodge and Shawn Seabrookes, who ended winless in Pool B, losing to USA-A's Trevor Crabb/Tri Bourne, 8-21, 10-21; Canada-A's William Hoey/Jake MacNeil, 14-21, 14-21; and Mexico-B's Miguel Sarabia/Raymond Stephens, 8-21, 12-21.
In the women's draw Joseph and Davidson ended with a 0-3 Pool B record after defeats at the hands of Nicaraguans, Swan Mendoza and Lolette Rodríguez, 13-21, 14-21; Falyn Fonoimoana/Nicolette Martin (USA-B) 3-21, 12-21 and Amanda Dowdy/Corinne Quiggle (USA-A), 19-21, 17-21.
And in the losers quarterfinal draw last night, the T&T women were drawn against Cayman Islands' Jessica Wolfenden and Marrisa Harrison, third-placed finishers in Pool A with a 1-2 record.
This after they were beaten by Mexico A's Martha Revuelta and Zaira Orellana 23-25, 5-25 and Curacao's Angjeny Tolentino and Christine Anthony, 21-18, 19-21, 11-15, while they won against US Virgin Islands' Melanie Valenciana and Amber Bennett.
