Bella Riva, the 1-5 favourite for Saturday's feature event, the SFA Breeders Stakes over 1,200 metres on the main track at Santa Rosa Park in Arima, sauntered home by 15 1/4 lengths in the good time of one minute and 31.1 seconds (1:13.1).
Bella Riva maintained her unbeaten tag while proving that she is the best locally bred two-year-old in training.
Punters made the John O'Brien trained the overwhelming favourite in an event which was full of incidents. It all began in the parade ring when the Lawrence Latchmansingh trained Desert Grass was withdrawn. Then, at the gates, the well supported O'Brien trained Smooth Sailing refused to enter the starting stalls.
But the drama did not end there as Cat's Can, which is trained by Jose William Samaroo for Dr Rupert Indar, broke smartly but broke down with 550m still to race, dislodging Ronald Ali and had to be destroyed.
However, when the starter sent the five-horse field on their way, Cats Can show first but before you could say 'Jack Robinson' Brian Boodramsing had Bella Riva at the head of affairs. She led from Cats Can with Enchanted Cat closing up in third, Just Bacchanal followed with Red Knuckles looking on from behind.
At the far turn, Boodramsing let out half an inch of reign and the daughter of Saint Viguer/Grand Riviere quickened two lengths clear of Enchanted Cat which moved into second as Cats Can broke down giving way to Just Bacchanal to move into third with Red Knuckles observing from the rear.
Coming to the corner, Bella Riva was travelling strongly and with every stride moved further away from her rivals. Inside the final 300m, Bella Riva was striding clear majestically and making the race look like an exercise gallop. Just Bacchanal to her credit stayed on well and looks on for the future. Enchanted Cat was at one pace for Nela Mohammed and finished third.
Bella Riva gave trainer O'Brien his third win in three years in the event. In 2018, Early Bird won and in 2017, Just Cruzin was victorious.
The day's leading trainer was Chester Roberts, who saddled two winners in Messi in the opening event and Khaleesi in the final event, on the Arima Race Club (ARC) eight-race card. No jockey was able to land two winners.
