USA-based T&T swimmer Dylan Carter was fifth in the men’s 100 metres freestyle A-final in 50.20 seconds at the 2019 USA Swimming Long Course Pro Series at the Greensboro Aquatic Centre, North Carolina, USA, on Thursday night.
A former University of South Carolina Trojans stand-out swimmer, Carter finished behind Harvard’s Dean Farris (49.74), North Carolina State’s Nyls Korstanje (40.90), his team-mate Coleman Stewart (50.02) and Team Elite’s Jacob Pebley (50.05).
The trio of New York Athletic’s Brett Fraser (50.44), Manta’s Ruslan Gaziev (50.53) and Gator’s Ryan Lochte (50.57) were sixth, seventh and eighth respectively in the A-Final.
In the morning heats, Carter was sixth fastest to the wall in 50.43 seconds to trail Korstanje (49.72), Farris (50.17), Stewart (50.25), Pebley (50.37) and Fraser (50.38).
The two other qualifiers to the finals were Manta Swim Club’s Rusland Gaziev (50.52) and Gator’s Ryan Lochte (50.56).
On Friday, Carter failed to advance to the men’s 200m A-final when he ended 15th in the heats in one minute, 52.51 seconds and in the seven-man B-final he was sixth in one minute, 54.41 seconds.
Yesterday, the top T&T swimmer booked a spot in the 100m butterfly final when he ended sixth overall in the heats in 54.22 seconds to beat Grand Canyon University’s Daniil Antipov (54.41) and Gamecock Aquatic’s Nathan Lile’s (54.73).
The top qualifiers were Guatemalan Luis Martinez (52.54), Dart Swimming’s Luca Urlando (53.21), Towson University’s Jack Saunderson (53.76), Vancouver’s Josiah Binnema (53.83) and Tennessee Aquatic’s Ryan Coetzee (54.18). He also missed out on qualifying to the 100 metres backstroke when he touched the wall in 56.64 seconds for 12th spot and a place in the B-final.
