T&T's Dylan Carter will compete for LA Current in Group B in the International Swimming League.
In addition to rosters for the LA Current, which also features top swimmers Ryan Murphy, Blake Pieroni and Kathleen Baker, the members of the New York Breakers, Team Iron and London Roar were also named to the seven other teams during a press launching in Los Angeles, USA, yesterday.
The other Caribbean swimmer named to one of the teams was Jamaican World Championship medal winner Alia Atkinson, who was selected by Team Iron.
The teams in Group A are the Cali Condors, DC Trident, AquaCenturions and the Energy Standard.
In announcing the rosters for the event, which will run from October to December, yesterday, Ali Khan, the Chief Executive Officer of the ISL, also revealed plans to usher in the greatest entertainment possible for swimming fans.
Khan said the ISL will attempt to emulate club swimming and create a team environment.
“One of the things which are important to highlight here, this is about clubs competing and emulating team events,” Khan said.
When asked about prize money, Khan said there will be appearance money, prize money and monies to be shared with the entire league. He also said there is no gender discrepancy in pay and that it will be solely based on performance.
The 23-year-old Carter is coming off competing at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Clovis, California, last weekend, where he reached the A-finals of his three events contested, the 200 metres freestyle, 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle.
In the 100m freestyle, Carter, a three-time 2018 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games gold medal winner, clocked 50.08 seconds in the heat before he touched the wall in 49.64 in the final for fourth spot.
A recent University of Southern California graduate, Carter got to the wall in 55.53 seconds in the 100m backstroke heats and improved on the time in the final with a 54.74 clocking for fourth as well. And in the 200m freestyle, Carter got home in one minute, 50.01 seconds in the heat, before going 1:48.95 in the final to take the fifth spot in the eight-swimmer field.
Reflecting on his performance at the meet, which served as part of his preparations for next month's FINA World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea (July 12-19) and Pan American Games in Lima, Peru (July 26-August 11), Carter said he was pleased with his efforts.
He said, "They were good swims at this time of the season for me, especially the 100 metres backstroke which was my best in-season time.''
Up next for Carter will be the Mission Viejo Swim Meet of Champions in California honour of Fran Crippen, where he will compete only in the 100m freestyle.
