T&T’s Leon Cassie and Vance Juteram will come up against Barbadians Kennie King and Dominick Scantlebury in the men’s doubles final of the 2019 Carebaco Junior International Championship today at the Sir Garfield Sobers Gymnasium in Barbados.
This after the T&T boys overcame Suriname’s second-ranked pair of Jair Naipal and Geordan Tjon Kon Joe, 17-21, 21-15, 21-15 in their semifinal, while King and Scantlebury rallied past Guyana’s Akili Haynes and Tyrese Jeffrey 19-21, 21-15, 21-11.
T&T’s Chequeda De Boulet will also contest the girls’ doubles decider with her Guyanese partner Priyanna Ramdhani, after they whipped Barbadians McKailia Reid and Sobers Robyn 21-7, 21-4.
However, in the Under-19 singles semifinals, Cassie went under to Scantlebury 21-16, 14-21, 20-22, while Canada’s Joseph Lu defeated King 21-8, 21-11.
Cassie also tasted defeat in the mixed doubles with partner Natania Mollah, losing 10-21, 20-22 to hometown duo Scantlebury and Robyn in their final-four clash.
T&T’s Alyssa Ramdath also fell at the last-four stage in the girls ‘semis, 9-21, 3-21, to Suriname’s Imani Mangroe and in the mixed doubles, second-ranked Juteram and De Boulet fell to Guyana’s Jeffrey and Ramdhani 11-21, 13-21.
On Friday, Cassie and Mollah defeated Barbadians Kennie King and Mc Kaila Reid 21-19, 21-12 in their mixed doubles while second-ranked Vance Juteram and Chequeda De Boulet stopped Barbadians Kimar Tull-Williams and Fallon Miller, 21-7, 21-4.
In the Under-19 boys’ singles last eight playoffs, Cassie ousted Jeffrey 21-14, 19-21, 21-4, but Reval Jaggessar fell to Bahan King 4-21, 8-2. In the girls’ equivalent, Ramdath stopped Bajan Reid 21-9, 21-3 but De Boulet went under to Suriname’s Imani Mangroe 20-22, 14-21.
The T&T boys’ doubles Under-19 duo of Stephen Gannes and Amir Mahabir bowed out to Barbadians King and Scantlebury 10-21, 8-21 but Cassie and Juteram reached the last-four courtesy a 21-17, 21-6 triumph over Bajans James Godding and Malik Hamilton, while Suriname’s Jair Naipal and Geordon Tjon Kon Joe booted Mollah and Tian Ramdath 21-11, 21-12.
In the women’s doubles, Bajans Aria Chandler and Miller overcame T&T’s Natania Mollah and Alyssa Ramdath 21-11, 21-7; Barbadians Reid and Robyn humbled Tishelle George and Zharia Hinds 21-10, 17-21, 21-16, while De Boulet paired with Ramdhani to beat Suriname’s Kayleigh Moenne and Faith Sariman 21-14, 21-5.
