Police X, boosted by the shooting of Donna Elise Charles, got off round two of the Retro Division in the Courts All Sectors Netball League to a positive start, downing Las Lomas 44-25 on Monday evening.
This was at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena in Tacarigua and the goal-attack was in prime shooting form netting 28 goals from 32 tries in the second two matches in the division. Earlier, Jabloteh defeated Police Y, 40-29. In the other match, TT Post easily advanced to the next round of the Alternative Division Knockout outplaying the University of the West Indies (UWI), 49-1.
Police, which lost its opening match of the season to Las Lomas (38-20), was able to exact revenge and remain in charge of the division. Then, Charles was unavailable to play but this time around her impact was felt as she had the police officers ahead throughout the match.
The former national shooter combined with goal-shooter Beverly Hernandez, who added the other 16 goals from 20 attempts, to give Police a narrow 9-7 lead in the first, 21-14 at the half and 34-19 in third to seal its fourth straight win in the four-team competition.
For Las Lomas, who slipped to its second defeat in five matches, Michelle Hutchins scored the bulk of the team's goals with 18 of 26.
In the first match, Julia Britto shined with 31 goals from 44 attempts to lift Jabloteh to the 21-goal victory after trailing in the first period, 9-7.
However, Police Y despite the effort of goal-shooter Beverly Rodgers (28/31) fell behind at the half-way mark by two (18-16) and did not recover on the resumption, going further behind by 10 goals (32-22).
Jabloteh remained in control in the final session to pull down its second win of the season from five matches.
Later in the knockout competition for teams in Alternative Division, league leader TT Post was brutal against UWI, crushing its opponent by 48 goals.
Shooting for the winning team were Crystal Jones (31/45), Shyan Bacquain (15/24) and Nadine Wilson-Williams (3/4).
Last evening the, knockout competition was scheduled to continue with the other three quarterfinal matches while tomorrow the champion of the Jean Pierre Challenge will be crowned following the semifinals, starting at 5.30 pm. The final will unfold from 7.10 pm.
