Solo Crusaders and WASA Table Tennis Club were both in winners row on Thursday night to move into a joint share on the lead in the seven-club Table Tennis Champions League standings.
Playing at the Laventille Rhythm Section Headquarters, Crusaders got a win each from in-form Anthony “Sandfly” Brown, N’Kosi Rouse and Andrew Alexander to sweep Servivors.
A former Caribbean Men’s Doubles champion, Brown brushed aside Sharazz Ali 11-7, 11-6, 11-7 for a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five matches tie and series before Toppers Snacks “Most Valuable Player” award recipient Rouse whipped Riad Abasali 11-7, 11-7, 11-5 to put Crusaders 2-0 ahead.
Alexander then got victory for his team, by battling past Isa Mohammed 11-6, 14-16, 11-7, 5-11, 11-9 to push their team to 18 points and a 5-3 win-loss record at the top of the table, levelled with WASA which outplayed Hillview Renegades 3-1 at D’Abadie Community Centre with victory giving either club a chance at the top spot as well.
For WASA, Alaric Humphreys outlasted Kenneth Parmanand 9-11, 11-5, 9-11, 11-2, 11-8; “MVP” awardee Kyle Borneo defeated Franklyn Seechan11-4, 11-8, 2-11, 15-13 and former top-ranked local Curtis Humphreys humbled Parmanand 11-5, 11-6, 6-11, 11-6. This was after Renegades took a 1-0 lead courtesy Yuvraaj Dookram’s 12-10, 11-8, 11-13, 11-9 win over Curtis.
Idle Queen’s Park Table Tennis Club, with a 5-1 win-loss record and 16 points, slipped to third on the table but will have two chances to reclaim the top spot this weekend, when they host D’Abadie Youths at Queen’s Park Oval, Tragerete Road, from 6 pm Saturday before heading south to meet Southerners Sunday at the Siparia Community Centre, Siparia, from 1 pm.
