The T&T Football Association has confirmed the appointment of United States resident Stephan De Four as the country's women's football coach.
De Four's appointment has been a major talking point after two members of the board of directors of the TTFA, Keith Look Loy, the Super League representative and Susan Joseph-Warrick the Women's Football League (WoLF) president, argued that the board had no part in deciding on the appointment of De Four.
But in a release yesterday, the TTFA said: "The TTFA wishes to announce the hiring of Stephan De Four as head coach of the National Women’s Under-20 and Under-17 teams ahead of upcoming CONCACAF championships."
It added, "De Four assumes duty that will see him overseeing the programme for a period which runs through to the respective U-20 and U-17 Women’s World Cups."
In an immediate response, De Four, who is of T&T heritage, told TTFA Media, "I am very honoured and humbled to serve my country in this capacity. My initial plan is to select a high level of competent Technical staff with the same dedication and vision as I have."
He added, "I am in the process of holding a screening of players for both groups early next month. I am elated to return to my homeland and make a difference, as it relates to Women’s Football in T&T.”
De Four is a previous T&T Women’s Under-17 coach and U-20 women’s assistant coach. He was also assistant coach to the girls' U-15 team that participated at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. De Four was previously the technical director of the Haitian Football Association Women’s Programme, where he served as head coach of the senior women and youth teams.
