Alex Eke­sa crossed the line in a time of 18 min­utes and 25 sec­onds, and Shi­an Lewis clocked 25.37 to be the men’s and women’s win­ners of the Port-of-Spain City Cor­po­ra­tion’s 6k Road Race, Sun­day.

The event, held as part of the 110th an­niver­sary of the Restora­tion of Civic Rights to the Peo­ple of Port-of-Spain, saw some 100 par­tic­i­pants, both men and women, take the start, but the pair of Eke­ka and Lewis proved to be a cut above the rest.

Fol­low­ing, over­all win­ner Eke­sa was Nicholas Ro­many, the ris­ing T&T road race tal­ent at 28 years, tak­ing the sil­ver medal in 18.31 and Ta­fari Wal­don com­plet­ing the top three men fin­ish­ers in 19.35. A num­ber of the coun­try’s road race tal­ents were al­so fea­tured, such as Collin Pereira, Don­nell Fran­cis, David Her­bert, and Dar­ius Hard­ing, all of whom oc­cu­pied po­si­tions fourth to sev­enth at the 19.47, 20.22 and 20.55, re­spec­tive­ly on the af­ter­noon.

Among the women, Lewis fin­ished 24th over­all ahead of Chantel Le Maitre, who stormed home for the run­ner-up spot as well as the 26th fin­ish­er over­all in 25.52, beat­ing many male coun­ter­parts on her way. Juli­et John-Sam­bra­no was the third woman in 26.38 while April Fran­cis, Ash­leigh Thomas, Shari Thomas, and Fe­li­cia Aguillera se­cured po­si­tions fourth to sev­enth in 28.04, 28.10, 29,03 and 29.20, re­spec­tive­ly.

This event was con­sid­ered a vi­brant cel­e­bra­tion of the com­mu­ni­ty, its cul­tur­al di­ver­si­ty, and its com­mit­ment to healthy liv­ing.

Al­der­man Chin­ua Al­leyne, May­or of Port-of-Spain, led the charge, lac­ing up his run­ning shoes along­side oth­er ded­i­cat­ed mem­bers of the City Coun­cil. Their par­tic­i­pa­tion ex­em­pli­fied the spir­it of uni­ty and civic pride that de­fines our city.
