National coach Terry Fenwick and his players will be taking nothing for granted when they take on the Bahamas, Saturday from 5 pm at the Thomas Robinson Stadium in Nassau, in the first of two crucial World Cup qualifying matches that will determine whether they will advance from Group F or not.
Both Fenwick and defender Sheldon Bateau were singing the same song in spite of the fact that the Bahamians, who have lost both their matches to date, could be up against a monstrous task in the Soca Warriors.
Fenwick said preparation has been difficult back at home and they have tried to get their best team for the encounters.
Only yesterday the team was strengthened with the return of captain Khaleem Hyland and Neveal Hackshaw who joined them the day before (Thursday), while three other players - midfielder Jomal Williams, goalkeeper Nicklas Frenderup and defender Luke Singh, the Toronto FC player, who are all expected to join the team for the St Kitts and Nevis encounter on Wednesday.
Fenwick said: "Our game plan regarding tomorrow's (today's) game is to take nothing for granted. We will approach the game as professionally as possible. We have good players in the camp already who have been working out hard on the training ground and we're just working on our system of play, our game plan.
"Ninety (90), 95 minutes is a long time of football so we're working out our plan for that period of time, where we might change formation, change players around, recognising that we've got two games in four days."
The Soca Warriors are currently in second position on the group standings with four points from two matches while the Kittitians were up to yesterday leading the group with six points from two matches.
However, Guyana, which rebounded from a 0-3 loss to T&T on March 25 to a 4-0 thrashing of Bahamas, could jump into the lead if they beat the Kittitians in their game last night (Friday).
Fenwick described the group as very competitive, saying the Guyanese were probably seen as the top team heading into the tournament.
He said: "We're in a transition period, we're bringing different names to the fray, new players, new system of play, trying to get a little bit of cohesion. So it has been a transitional period for T&T national team, there are changes going on behind the scenes, so we're taking it one game at a time."
Bateau, the Mechelen defender said they want to have a good start, a good performance and show that as a team and country, they can move on in the tournament.
