Swimmer Cherelle Thompson swam to the gold medal at the Soflo Olympic Trials in South Florida, USA, on Sunday.
And Dylan Carter stormed home with a bronze medal following a weekend of good results for T&T athletes preparing for the Olympic Games, from July 23 to August 8 in Tokyo, Japan.
Thompson, in the 50-metre freestyle, was a cut above the rest in the final of the event, despite not performing the way she had hoped. After a good start, Thompson touched the wall in a time of 26.08 seconds for the silverware.
Afterwards, she said she was not satisfied with her result but was glad to have been given the opportunity to swim.
"My start was good but the second half of the race needs some work on it. It means I still have work to do. My coach and I will be working on different pieces of my race because I currently want to dip under 25 seconds. I know it would have been difficult for me, having swum four races in two days but I know with a little bit of rest, I will be able to go faster."
Thompson was followed in second by Alena Phillips in 26.40 seconds while Gabriana Banks was third in 26.65.
Meanwhile, Carter at the Mare Nostrum Swim Meet in Monaco, made his effort count in the 100m freestyle event on Saturday, touching the wall in a time of 49.98as the third fastest on the night.
The French dominated the top two positions with Maxime Grousset taking the gold medal with a 48.28 performance and his countryman Charles Rihoux securing the silver in 49.44. The fourth position went to another Frenchman, Clement Mignon, in a time of 50.07.
However, in the 100m butterfly on the final day yesterday, Carter struggled to a way under-par 10th position. That event was won by Switzerland's Jeremy Desplanches in 53.08 while Alberto Lozano and Tomer Frankel sealed the silver and bronze medals, respectively in 53.48 and 54.06 seconds.
