Mikkel Govia had a solid all-round display, first with the ball and then bat to lead Cantaro Village Knights to a six-wicket win over Las Pastora Warriors in the Pearl & Bunty Lara ‘Super 15’ Cruz Cup final hosted by the Santa Cruz Sports Association at the Brian Lara Recreation Ground, Sam Boucaud, Upper Santa Cruz on Sunday night.
Sent into bat first, the Warriors were restricted to a modest 91 runs for seven wickets in their 15 overs at the crease with Imran Hosein hitting a top score of 17 runs.
Leg byes were the next main contributor to the Warriors’ meagre total with 12, while Jyd Goolie added ten, Isaiah Rajah eight, and out-of-favour West Indies batsman Darren Bravo five, after being dropped on his first ball at the wicket off the bowling of Eric Garcia, before he was one of two wickets to fall to the same bowler.
The pick of the bowlers for the disciplined Village Knights attack was Govia with three wickets for a measly 13 runs in three overs while Garcia grabbed two for 13, and Sion Hackett, the other wicket for six runs from three tidy overs.
The Village Knights then chased down their target reaching 93 for the loss of four wickets with opener Shakiel Johnson cracking 30 from 14 balls which were laced with two sixes and two fours while Kyle Ramdoo made a stroke-filled 22 and his brother, Govia an unbeaten 18 to guide their team to victory in 10.2 overs.
Bowling for the Warriors Rajah picked up two wickets for 17 runs while Bryan Charles had one for seven, and former T&T and West Indies all-rounder Rayad Emrit, one for 25.
On Saturday in the semifinals, Govia also starred for the Village Knights in their 25 runs win over Sam Boucaud Scorpions.
