Reigning champion Curtis Humphreys of WASA stayed on course to repeat as Men's Singles champion in the 2019 Solo Seniors National Table Tennis Tournament hosted by the T&T Table Tennis Association after he advanced to the quarterfinals at the National Racket Centre, Orange Grove Road, Tacarigua on Sunday.
This after Humphreys defeated Frankly Seechan 12-10, 11-5, 13-11 in the last-16 match-up and will resume battle on Saturday versus Derron Douglas in the quarterfinals after the latter eased past Anthony Laquis 11-5, 13-11, 11-9.
Joing Humphreys and Douglas in the quarterfinals were Over-45 Veterans champion, 69-year-old David Mahabir, Aaron Wilson, Arun Roopnarine and youngsters, Derron Douglas and Luc O'Young.
Mahabir brushed aside Andrew Edwards 11-5, 11-3, 11-4 to set up a last-eight meeting with O'Young who ousted Joshua Maxwell 7-11, 11-9, 11-7, 5-11, 11-9; Wilson rallied past Alaric Humphreys 11-4, 7-11, 11-5, 13-11 and will do battle with Anson Wellington, who booted Sarvesh Mungal 11-9, 11-7, 11-7 while Kennethn Parmanand, a 7-11, 11-6, 4-11, 11-9, 11-7 winner over Aaron Edwards comes up against Roopnarine, who ousted Abraham Francis 12-10, 11-8, 11-6 and next faces.
On Saturday last, the women’s Open was contested down to the final-four with defending champion, Catherine Spicer of Powergen set to meet Linda Partap-Boodhan while 12-time national champion Aleena Edwards and two-time champion Brittany Joseph will clash in the other semis.
This after Spicer swept past Imani Edwards-Taylor, Chelsea Fong ousted Linda Partap-Boodhan 11-9, 11-8, 11-7, Edwards rallied past national Under-11 champion, Chloe Fraser 8-11, 11-4, 11-5, 11-1 and Joseph dumped Shreya Maharaj 11-6, 11-2, 11-7.
