As was expected Guyana’s Shemar Britton and Brittany Joseph won their respective Under-21 Division titles when the Trinbago Open Junior Table Tennis Tournament concluded at the National Racquet Center, Orange Grove Road, Tacarigua on Saturday.
Fresh off their wins in the Open Division of the Trinbago Open Table Tennis Tournament, Britton and Joseph lived up to expectations with comprehensive victories in the competition which was originally carded for September 22 but was postponed due to the passage of Tropical Storm Karen.
Coming up against clubmate and triple-crown in the Solo National Juniors last month, Derron Douglas, Britton triumphed 12-10, 11-9, 7-11, 11-7.
In his semifinal, Britton beat another clubmate, Joshua Maxwell 11-4, 11-6, 10-12, 11-8 and Douglas outplayed Jesse Dookie 14-12, 11-7, 11-5.
Britton earlier on whipped Luc O'Young 11-5, 11-6, 11-4 in the quarterfinals while Douglas beat N'Kosi Rouse 11-7, 11-9, 11-9, Dookie booted Jahred Corbin 11-6, 11-4, 11-7, and Maxwell overwhelmed Abraham Francis, 11-5, 11-9, 11-7.
In the Under-21 Girls’ competition, Joseph made easy work of Warrenville's Rayanna Boodhan 11-1, 11-5, 11-3.
This after Joseph, winner of the Open Division women's title in the Trinbago Open on Sunday last over Chelsea Fong, spanked Sarah Mohammed 11-3, 11-4, 11-1 in her semifinal, and Boodhan dumped Derah Ramoutar 11-6, 11-7, 11-5 in their final-four encounters.
Nicolas Lee secured the Boys Under-15 title via his 11-6, 12-10, 11-8 triumph over his Carenage Blasters team-mate Jamali Mauge.
Lee booted Nicholas O'Young 8-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-2 in their semis, and Mauge overcame Samuel Humphreys 8-11, 10-12, 11-3, 11-7, 11-2.
