Las Lomas had to fight off a raging Jabloteh but it was able to book the last semifinal spot in the Alternative Division knockout competition of the Courts All Sectors Netball League on Tuesday at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena in Tacarigua.
Goal-shooter Patrice Thomas and goal-attack Aaliyah Paul were tasked to shoot for Las Lomas and though having to fight for each goal, they did enough to get their a 33-26 victory.
Thomas netted 18 goals from 34 attempts while Paul added 15 in 23 to have Las Lomas ahead in each quarter 10-8, 19-15 and 25-20, respectively, before coming away with the seven-goal win.
Jabloteh's goal-shooter Kareena Lewis scored a match-high 20 from 26 tries but in a losing effort. Her goal-attack Anescia De Peza netted six of nine.
Las Lomas moves on to play Police Y, who like the Metal Industries Company (MIC) Tigers locked in their semifinal appearances with easy victories against Police X and the University of the Southern Caribbean (USC), respectively.
Police Y had no mercy for an undermanned Police X team, beating its opponent who only had five of its seven players available that evening, 20-0.
The Tigers progressed after another lopsided match with their goal-shooter Tiffany Gonzalez boosting her team with 34 in 41 to claim a 38-11 victory over USC, which had Gellana Grant putting up the best shooting figures of eight of nine in the loss.
Today, the winner of the Jean Pierre Challenge will be decided in the final round of action before the league takes a break for the Carnival season. In the first semifinal match, Fire will face Open Campus at 5.30 pm then the University of T&T (UTT) will meet Police X from 6.20 pm. The winners will advance to the final set to pass off at 7.10 pm.
