It did not take Twenty-Five-year-old T&T apprentice jockey Learie Seecharan, very long to return to the winner's enclosure. On Tuesday evening after riding on three occasions on Monday, Learie landed Rea Mea to a short-head victory for owner/trainer Christine Ammann.
Seecharan returned to action after an absence of two years at the Hastings Race Track on Monday but did not win on any of his rides but changed the script on Tuesday. Learie has not ridden at the Hastings Racecourse since the Covid-19 Pandemic struck in Trinidad in March of 2020.
Learie rode a confident race on the 4-1 shot Rea Mea, tracking the pace set by Fly Away. Going to first turn Fly Away still held sway from Rea Mea with Hollywood Mistress making three across the track. These were being tracked by Fully Lent and Wandalita with Queen of Attitude contented to observe from the rear.
At Coming to the corner Fly Away still led for leading rider Antonio Ambrosio Reyes but Seecharan was asking Rea Mea to go win her race and the pair remained locked in battle. Inside the final 200 metres Rea Mea and edged ahead with Learie Secharan riding for all he was worth. In the end, Rea Mea got home in a close finish from Fly Away with Queen of Attitude staying on for third and Hollywood Mistress weakening into fourth.
Rea Mea recorded the time of 1:17.31 for the trip.
Two weeks ago, Learie returned to Canada and was greeted by his brother Lenny winning three races in two days. His brother Lenny was unable to get his name on the scoresheet.
Learie's last win in Trinidad and Tobago was the well punted Road Rage on Day 4 of the Arima Race Club racing season on February 20th. Learie brought Road Rage with a well-timed run and he repelled the late challenges of four horses in what was probably one of the best finished seen at Santa Rosa Park, Arima for a long while. Road Rage won at odds for owner Deodath Gobin and deceased trainer Harriram 'Pepsi" Gobin.
The Seecharan Racing twins are now back in action and seeking to keep the flag of Trinidad and Tobago flying high.
