Sports administrator Mishri Lutchmedial is making a call for all cricketers from T&T to get involved in the Balmain Cricket League. The $25,000 Rock Hard Cement Balmain United Ten10 (T10) windball cricket tournament starts today in Balmain, Couva.
Some 32 teams will be taking part in the tournament that is being sponsored by Rock Hard Cement and Novo Tecknologies.
President of the Balmain United club for the past 30 years, Lutchmedial said: “We want to do our part to bring the community together again and we have decided to host this tournament. We want to do our part to get cricket going again and hence we have decided to host this tournament.”
The former chairman of the Central Zonal Council of the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) thinks that the quality of the players coming to this tournament will ignite great excitement.
“We are hoping to get players like Sunil Narine to take part in this tournament and this will bring great excitement. At this time of the year, the windball option is better for us and we are looking forward to great cricket. We are grateful to our sponsors for helping us bring cricket to the village of Balmain. We are giving back to the community.”

Seven-a-side cricket
in Chaguanas
Councillor Adrian Ali is hosting a seven-a-side windball cricket tournament under the patronage of Chaguanas Mayor Vandana Mohit.
The hard-working Ali is staging this tournament for the second successive year and is looking forward to teams participating in what is expected to be the major cricket attraction in Central over the next month.
The tournament is carded to start Friday and 24 teams are expected to take part. According to Ali, 18 teams have already registered so there are only six spots available in what promises to be a very competitive tournament. The winners will pocket $10,000, second place gets $5,000 and third place walks away with $2,500.
Ali was high in praise of Mayor Mohit saying: “We are happy to have the Mayor on board with us at this time. She has been the hardest working Mayor in the history of Chaguanas and she is committed to us on this project. She sees the value of bringing people together for meaningful activity and we are happy to have her on board.

Moonilal presses New Recruits to up discipline
In light of the problems currently gripping the country with unruly protests and also violence among young people, Dr Roodal Moonilal has urged New Recruits cricket club to ensure that their members exhibit the highest level of discipline.
Moonilal made the comment to club president Myron Babwah as he continued his work with cricket clubs in the Southland by donating cricket gears to them.
He said: “Your club is the best place to capture young minds and mould it. Ensure that you instil that discipline in the young ones coming through the club as this would only help them as citizens and also help with the survival of your club.”
New Recruits cricket club a household name in the South, hails from Monkey Town in Barrackpore and participates in the top leagues in South.
Moonilal said: “We need to take back this country from the grip of the criminal element and sport has a big role to play in that. We need to start at the club level, where young impressionable young men and women will be joining in. We need to have strong leadership and start here and this would produce the type of model citizens, we need.
“I am a cricket lover and I can tell you that we can use this sport as a tool to manufacture wonderful citizens. Let’s increase membership at cricket clubs so that we can get to more people.”
Babwah was thankful for the assistance given by Moonilal saying: “If is one thing we can depend on Dr Moonilal to assist us. He has been a good friend of our club and continues to look in to make sure that we are doing the right thing. We are going to increase our membership and work hard with the young ones to lead them on to better things.”
