Matthews honoured as top women’s player, Shamar & Alzarri also awarded

BRIDGETOWN, Bar­ba­dos – West In­dies Women’s cap­tain Hay­ley Matthews pre­dictably took home the top women’s awards, while fast bowlers Shamar and Alzarri Joseph were al­so award­ed when Crick­et West In­dies (CWI) and the West In­dies Play­ers’ As­so­ci­a­tion (WIPA) held their eighth awards gala here at Wyn­d­ham Grand Bar­ba­dos on Sun­day.

The 27-year-old Matthews, the num­ber one Women’s T20I all-rounder in the world and the sec­ond-best ODI all-rounder and T20I bat­ter, copped the Women’s ODI and T20I Play­er of the Year awards fol­low­ing an im­pres­sive 2024.

Mean­while, Shamar Joseph, who broke on­to the in­ter­na­tion­al scene with an out­stand­ing per­for­mance dur­ing last year’s tour of Aus­tralia where he bowled the West In­dies to their first vic­to­ry there in 27 years, was named Test Play­er of the Year.

The un­re­lat­ed Alzarri Joseph was al­so in win­ners’ row, claim­ing the award for Men’s T20I Play­er of the Year, while white-ball cap­tain Shai Hope cap­tured the Men’s ODI Play­er of the Year award.

Do­mes­ti­cal­ly, Nicholas Pooran was named Re­gion­al T20 Play­er of the Year, Mikyle Louis took home the award for West In­dies Cham­pi­onship Play­er of the Year, while Justin Greaves was named the CG Unit­ed Su­per50 Cup Play­er of the Year.

Among the women, Ky­cia Knight walked away with the CG Unit­ed Women’s Su­per50 Cup Play­er of the Year award, and Plaf­fi­ana Milling­ton claimed the CWI T20 Blaze Play­er of the Year award.
