Shaniya Morgan inspired Southern Netball Academy (SNA) with 47 goals as they put together a tremendous team performance to blow out TT Post, 61-35 in the A Division of the Republic Bank Netball League. This was on Monday at the netball court at Nelson Mandela Park in St Clair, Port-of-Spain.
Morgan's goals came off of 64 attempts as SNA proved too strong for TT Post in the second match of an A Division double-header. In the opening affair, Police Youth Club (PYC) made light work of Laventille United, topping them 42-17.
Goal-attack Mariah Rodriguez opened in the circle with Morgan and the duo had SNA ahead 14-10 in the first quarter then 37-22 at the half. Rodriguez did well to feed her shooter while adding seven in 12 for the eventual winner. Later on, Rebecca Beggs joined the party replacing Rodriguez and she too netted seven of 12.
SNA went on to lead 49-29 at the end of the third quarter and while TT Post did not give up, they came out on the bad side of the 26-goal result.
Opening the shooting for TT Post were goal-shooter Crystal Jones with 17 of 20 and goal-attack Jocelyn Marcelle with 11 in 14. Jones was later replaced by Germain Charles, who poured in seven of 10 but it was not enough.
In the earlier one-sided match-up, Kaliyah Cooper produced 35 goals from 54 tries to guide PYC to the 25-goal victory after her team led at the end of each period, 13-3 in the first, 27-7 at the half and in the third, 35-11.
Goal-shooter Jill Humphrey scored the bulk of Laventille United's goals, with 10 in 17.
Action in the league continues today (Wednesday) with action in the Inters Division. The first pass is at 5 pm.
