Peer Nassier has been appointed head coach and Curtis Burkette, assistant coach of the national Under-19 and U-21 men's volleyball teams which will compete at their respective Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) Championships in Jamaica and Martinique respectively.
Contacted yesterday, T&T Volleyball Federation and CAZOVA boss, Mushtaque Mohammed confirmed the appointment of both men, who are also members of local club Zenith coaching staff.
Nassier, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist completed his FIVB Level I Coaching in 1994 and followed up with his Level II Coaching Course in 1999 and Level III in 2011 while Burkette has so far completed his Level I Coaching Course.
Commenting on the appointments, Mohammed, the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA), Vice-President and President of the Federation International Volleyball Development Commission, first pointed out that the selection process for all nationals teams was incomplete, with the selection of the Under-18 and Under-20 women's team coaches as well as the senior men and women teams still to be finalised.
The Under-19 Boys CAZOVA Championship comes off in Kingston, Jamaica from July 21-28 and will be held simultaneously with the Under-18 Girls, while the Under-21 Men and Under-20 Women are both scheduled for Martinique from December 12 -22.
Nasssier is the holder of a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of the West Indies. He received his Masters in Exercise and Sport Science at Smith College and is completing a PhD in Exercise Physiology at Springfield College.
Peer has been a lecturer in the Department of Physical Education at Mt Holyoke College, South Hadley, MA and an instructor in the Department of Biology and Chemistry at Springfield College.
He received his certification as a volleyball coach at the University of Leipzig in Germany and has served as head coach at Mount Holyoke and assistant coach of the T&T men's volleyball team.
