Mauricia Nicholson emerged as the "Most Valuable Player" of the Net-Ash Foundation Mixed Netball League after leading Elite Eagles to the title on Sunday evening.
The goal-shooter did as she has done all season and excelled in the circle, scoring 23 goals from 37 attempts to help the Eagles to a narrow 35-33 victory in the final which was played at the Shaw Park Hard Courts in Tobago.
The finale of the inaugural competition lived up to expectations as the teams battled from the the first pass but it was Elite Eagles holding the edge at the end of each of the quarters, 10-7 in the first, 19-11 at the half and 31-21 in the third.
Dream Team made a valiant run at the title in the fourth quarter, outscoring its opponent 12-4 to come within four but time was against them and they had to settle for the runners-up spot when the final whistle sounded.
Aiding in the victory was goal-attack Oprah Douglas with 12 in 21 while on the defensive end were goal-keeper Kerry Celestine and goal-defence Aniecia Baptiste to help Elite Eagles, the opening day One-Day Knockout Tournament winner, pick up $5,000 first place prize.
In the third-place match earlier, Police defeated Spartans, 44-32.
Handing out awards at the presentation ceremony which followed soon after the final was the foundation's founder and managing director, Ashelle Legall, a Sport Officer I in the Division of Sport and Youth Affairs of the Tobago House of Asembly (THA) and former national senior player.
Nicholson (Elite Eagles) was also presented the "Most Outstanding Women's Player" award and her teammate Valdez Perez, the "Most Outstanding Men's Player" award.
