The Harriram Gobin trained Nuclear Power who won last year's Gold Cup is my selection to win today's feature event the Grade Three— President's Cup over 1,900 metres on the main track, at Santa Rosa Park, Arima this afternoon. Carlos Rojas has been booked to partner the Shivam Maharaj owned 2018 Gold Cup winner, to get back on the winning trail.
The filly has been specially prepared for this event and has the class and staying power to outrun her rivals. On the form book, the improving Nuclear Power will be difficult to peg back.
With last year's winner, Princess Suri sidelined, the ten horses that are expected to create a very competitive field. Last year's runner up Magical Victory from the barn of Michel Carew (Jnr) is expected to run a big race yet again, along with last year's third Battle Cry from the John O'Brien Stable.
Champion trainer Glenn Mendez attacks this event with Whisper Light and Caesar Country two horses that cannot be overlooked. The 2018 Stewards Cup winner Whisper Light attempted to do the Stewards Cup-Gold Cup double but came up short by three inches. The enigmatic Whisper Light could go very close once again for champion jockey Ricky Jadoo.
Caesar Country is well weighted on 49.5 kilos and could run a big race for Sven Balrooop. He has a touch of class and could surprise them all.
Former Champion trainer John O'Brien attack the event with two runners in Thisonesforron and General JN. The former is a classy individual and has a big heart. He will go close if anywhere near his best. However the classy General JN returned to racing successfully last time out and with 52 kilos and Rico Hernandez in the saddle, he could make them all run.
The horse which everyone expects to go very close is the stablemate of Nuclear Power Master of War which has raced unbeaten in his last five starts going back to 2018. Yosenyer Serrano will ride this horse which has been improving steadily and must be respected.
Post time for the first event today is 1:05 pm.
