The St. Kitts/Nevis Patriots lost their fifth match of the 2020 Hero CPL as they went under to the Jamaica Tallawahs by 37 runs at the Queen's Park Oval in Port-of-Spain on Saturday.
SCORES: Jamaica Tallawahs 147/6 versus St. Kitts/Nevis Patriots 110 all out (19.4).
On a better pitch at the Queen's Park Oval, the Patriots would have fancied their chances of getting 148 runs for victory after skipper Rayad Emrit grabbed 3/32 to restrict the Jamaicans to 147/6 but they couldn't get over the ropes. It means that have now lost five out of their six matches and will need to defeat the Guyana Amazon Warriors today to have an outside chance of making the final four.
While Glenn Phillips scored an unbeaten 79 carrying his bat through the innings for the Tallawahs, no one stayed around long enough to achieve that for the Patriots.
They lost wickets at regular intervals and could not build a proper foundation to challenge the target. Carlos Brathwaite was again great with the ball taking 3/11, while there were two wickets apiece for Sandeep Lamachanie, Veersammy Permaul and Fidel Edwards.
Earlier, the Tallawahs innings was centred around the batting of New Zealander Glenn Phillip. The right-hander who opened the batting stayed the course to remain 79 not out off 61 balls with six sixes and two fours.
He struck the ball cleanly and also showed great restraint to those deliveries that could have potentially taken his wicket.
Jermaine Blackwood looked at east with 27 off 26 balls but the innings tapered away towards the end and had Phillips gotten support the final total could have been bigger. Emrit continued his fine tournament with the ball taking 3/32.
