Pauseforacoors, well ridden by former champion jockey Brian Boodramsing landed a 'touch' for trainer John O'Brien yesterday in the feature Handicap race for Horses Rated -70 and Over. The Raroma Stable owned four-year-old chestnut filly Pauseforacoors, scored by half-a-length at odds of 7/2.
Punters made the Glenn Mendez trained Valorous to 8/5 favourite to win and get his revenge over the 2018 Gold Cup winner Nuclear Power. However, that did not materialise and Nuclear Power was again ahead in front of Valorous at the line.
When the eight-horse field was sent on its way, the Mendez trained 2018 Steward's Cup winner Whisper Light was first to show and he was followed by Pauseforacoors and Valorous with Nuclear Power and Thisonesforron tracking the early pace.
Going to the far turn, Whisper Light still held sway with Pauseforacoors breathing down his neck as Valorous and Ricky Jadoo watched every move of Pauseforacoors.
It was here that Prayven Badrie asked the Harriram Gobin trained Gold Cup winner Nuclear Power to take closer order and he began to close on the leaders, along with two-times Horse of The Year Thisonesforron which was making headway to join issue.
Coming to the corner, a great finish was envisaged as Brian Boodramsing sent Pauseforacoors on to win her race and she quickened into a 3/4 length lead from Valorous and Nuclear Power as Thisonesforron kept closing on the leader. At this point Whisper, Light was still in touch and had an outside chance of snatching the spoils.
Once in line for home, Pauseforacoors and Boodramsing kept up the gallop with Nuclear Power, Valorous and Thisonesforron challenging with Whisper Light still in with a shout.
With five horses still in with a chance in the final 200 metres, nothing seemed to be getting to grips with Pasueforacoors who battled all the way to the line to outpoint Nuclear Power and Valorous in a driving finish. Another neck behind in fourth was Thisonesforron with Whisper Light a length away in fifth.
Pauseforacoors won in the time of 1:13.16 as she took the lions to share of the $51,000 purse event.
The classic three-year-olds showed off today with O'Brien's Early Bird and Harold Chadee's Regal Intension flexing their muscles. Early Bird won how he wanted by 4 3/4 lengths as the 4'5 favourite n the third event of the eight-race card, before Regal Intension sauntered home buy six-length in the final event in the time of 1:20.00.
Riding honours for the day's programme went to Brian Boodramsing who rode three winners in Early Bird, Pauseforacoors and Steve Austin.
Training honours were shared between O'Brien and Ramesh Ramroop whom both saddled two winners on the eight-race programme.
