Police X was taken to the limit by Jabloteh but the former did just enough to come away with a 26-24 victory when action in the Alternative Division continued in the Courts All Sectors Netball League on Tuesday.
The teams met in the second match of a triple-header at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena in Tacarigua. Earlier, Police Y team was unfortunately pummelled by Metal Industries Company (MIC) Tigers, 28-3 and in the last match, TT Post defeated the University of the Southern Caribbean (USC), 22-10.
For the Police X team, goal-attack Maya Roberts stood out in the shooting circle, netting 16 goals from 29 attempts while her goal-shooter Terry Ann Roget added the other 10 goals off 19 tries.
Despite the efforts of Jabloteh’s Chantal Francis, the goal-shooter, with eight of 13 and goal-attack Nicola Solomon (16/23), their team trailed at the end of each quarter by narrow margins, 9-7 in the first, 13-11 at the half and in the third, 19-16 before falling to the two-goal defeat.
It was the second straight win for Police X following its opening loss to Las Lomas (30-9). The unit’s other win came on Monday when it struggled past USC, 10-6.
Unfortunately, its Y team slipped to its third consecutive loss, this time to a raging Tigers, which have won three matches on the trot. Kellie-Ann Alexander played a major role in getting Tigers to the win, leading with 18 off 27.
In the final match, Crystal Jones poured in 18 of 28 to deliver TT Post to its 12-goal victory over USC.
