The Shaffique Khan trained four-year-old chestnut filly, Princess Suri which won the 2018 edition of the Grade Three - President's Cup over 1,900 metres will not be defending her crown on Wednesday.
Princess Suri who is owned by Suraj Nayban won this event impressively last year by 2 1/4 lengths when she defeated Magical Victory and Battle Cry both of which will be in the line up to contest for honours.
Trainer Khan was disappointed at her withdrawal, stating, "She had to be pulled out as she has had a setback in training. This happens in racing and although she ran a blinder last timeout she will not be competing on Wednesday."
Princess Suri withdrawal leaves the way open for the Shivam Maharaj owned Nuclear Power, who won last season Gold Cup to add to her tally with a President's Cup win.
The Three-year-old, grey filly will now be ridden by Carlos Rojas and must have an outstanding chance of winning this event as her main rivals Princess Suri will remain indoors.
However, though the race was robbed of some interest some of the top class horses are set to ensure that this race is a good one.
Nuclear Power will throw the gauntlet to Whisper Light, Thisonesforron, Battle Cry, General JN and Master of War in what looks an intriguing contest.
Ten horses are expected to face the starter at Santa Rosa Park in Arima to challenge for the title.
Caesar Country from the Glenn Mendez barn is one of two entrants from the stable. This one is well weighted on 49.5 kilos and could run a big race for Sven Balrooop. However, Stewards Cup winner of 2018 Whisper Light which was just touched off in a thriller on Boxing Day must be respected with Ricky Jadoo in the saddle. Despite top-weight Whisper, Light is expected to go close under champion jockey Ricky Jadoo.
Former Champion trainer John O'Brien attack the event with two runners in Thisonesforron and General JN. The former is a classy individual and has a big heart. He will go close if anywhere near his best. However, the classy General JN returned to racing successfully last time out and with 52 kilos and Rico Hernandez in the saddle he could make them all run.
The horse which everyone expects to go very close is the stablemate of Nuclear Power Master of War which has raced unbeaten in his last five starts going back to 2018. Yosenyer Serrano will ride this horse which has been improving steadily and must be respected.
