T&T’s Daniel Rahaman advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Boys Under-14 Division of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and Central American and Caribbean Tennis Confederation (COTECC) Tobago Carnival Cup Under-14 Tournament at the National Racquet Centre, Orange Grove Road, Tacarigua on Monday.
This after Rahaman defeated St Lucian Mc Carvy Cyril 6-3, 6-2 while fellow T&T player Connor Carrington went under to Barbadian Dimitri Kirton 2-6, 2-6.
The duo now joins top-ranked Kale Dalla Costa, Yeshowah Campbell-Smith, Jordell Chapman, and Aaron Subero, all of T&T as well as Barbadian Aidan Clarke and second-ranked Xzavier Hastick of Canada in the quarterfinal draw today.
Estrada, Marin flawless in girls qualifiers
The Mexican pair of Hanna Estrada and Fernanda Marin both topped their respective round-robin Groups in the Under-14 Girls with perfect 4-0 records.
In Group One, 13-year-old Estrada, the top-ranked player and winner of the recent J5 Under-18 Girls title at Tacarigua trounced Gabriella Prince 4-0, 4-0 for her fourth win by a similar scoreline after beating Brianna Harricharan, Naomi Mohammed, and Charde Sylvester by the same margin in her earlier matches.
She was joined in the semifinals by Harricharan who defeated Prince Sylvester 4-1, 4-1 to end in the second spot in Group One with a 3-1 record.
And in Group Two, third-ranked Marin blanked Lilly Mohammed 4-0, 4-0 to add to her previous wins against Em-Myriam Campbell-Smith, St Lucian Anaiah Bousquet, and Shiloh Walker while Campbell-Smith ended second with a 3-1 mark after beating Mohammed.

Sebastien Byng breezes into U-18 Tobago Carnival Cup last-16
Sebastien Byng breezed past Dominican Republic’s Giancarlo Rosario to move into the last-16 of the Boys Under-18 main draw of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Tennis Tour J5 Tournament at Tacarigua.
A winner over Jamaican Kahj Mark Anthony Clarke 6-2, 6-0 in his first round qualifier on Saturday, and then USA’s Andrew Andea 6-0, 6-2 to secure a spot in the main draw, Byng continued his rich form when Rosario retired trailing 6-3, 3-1 as the T&T player set up a second-round meeting with USA’s Maximo Oberto Calleri who dispatched Colombian Cesar Mahecha 6-3,6-4.
However, all the other local players involved in round-of-32 matches inclusive of B’Jorn Hall, Ethan Wong, Sebastian Sylvester, Nathen Martin, Beckham Sylvester, Thomas Chung, Shae Millington, and Christopher Roberts were beaten in their matches. The tournament continues today from 9 am.
