It will be a tale of two teams going after their first-ever First Citizens Cup title at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex in Bagatelle, Diego Martin from 7 Friday.
Both Police FC and the unbeaten Terminix La Horquetta Rangers emerged from the Abercrombie Group after the semi-final play-off and will be meeting for the second time in the tournament to decide the champion team.
In the first meeting between the teams last month, Rangers edged the Lawmen 1-0. However, the Lawmen will also remember their 2-0 triumph over Rangers in the Ascension Invitational Football League a couple of months ago.
On Thursday, Police manager Geddes Foncette said his team had corrected their mistakes from the 0-1 loss to the Rangers and believe they have a good chance of lifting the title tonight.
“We are excited about the match. It will be a tough game, yes, but I feel we have a chance to win our first First Citizens Cup. I look forward to a good match,” Foncette said.
Foncette noted that under Richard Hood, the team has been playing excellent football and although the result can spin in anybody’s favour, he believed Police would come out on top.
Police FC’s road to the final featured just that one loss to La Horquetta Rangers, which spoiled an otherwise smooth record.
For Rangers, owner Richard Ferguson is calling on his team to put on their goal-scoring boots if they are to walk away winners.
Ferguson has admitted that he himself feels the Lawmen have the strongest defence in the tournament and have shown that by conceding only three goals for the season. However, he said his players have not been scoring the number of goals he knows they can score.
“Once we score goals as we know we can, the title will be ours. And therefore we will be focused on all-out attack and goal-scoring for the final,” Ferguson explained.
Since the Police loss in the Ascension League, the La Horquetta outfit have sought to strengthen the attack by bringing in Jesus Prez, Isaiah Lee, Anslem Jackson and Kishun Seecharan, which Ferguson said had paid some dividends so far.
La Horquetta coach Dave Quamina added that the game will be a tough one that can go in anybody’s favour.
“I think both teams are at the same level, both firing and playing well, and therefore a winner can only be determined on the day,” Quamina said.
