Chris Richards Sr, Ye Ji Lee, Ernest De Gannes, Ramsingh Boodoosingh, Chris Richards Jr and Mahindra Rajkumar were the winners of the Pointe-A-Pierre Golf Club (PAPGC) Three day South Open which took place at Pointe-a-Pierre Golf Course, San Fernando from February 12-14.
The pros were led by Richards Sr, who shot a three-day score of 209 to secure the $10,000 first prize donated by Kenson Group of companies. The runner-up position was secured by Anthony Gills (236) and Anthony Benny finished third on 239.
Richards Jr registered a score of 224 to hold-off Jean Marc Chevotiere (227) and Ayden Ali, who shot 229.
Lee shot 82 and 77 for a two-day lead of 159 in the women's six-field competition as she fended off Jada Charles, winner of the Brechin Castle title in January, who shot 85 and 81 for a total of 166. Next was Chloe Ajodha in third, behind an overall score of 170, with Sarah Ramphal in the fourth position with 88 and 88 for a total of 176.
In other results, Boodoosingh won the First Flight category, De Gannes emerged the winner of the Second Flight while Rajkumar topped the Seniors.
The club which is less than two years old attracted players from all the clubs in T&T - Moka, Chaguaramas, Millennium, St Madeleine and Brechin Castle.
The objective of the club is to bring junior players into the sport of golf by virtue of having them play for free and also offer free classes to children four to 12 years old. The club is targeting vulnerable communities in the Southland and making sure the sport is affordable and accessible to those interested.
