Middle-order batsman Jason Mohammed was in brilliant form as he struck a whirlwind hundred to take T&T Red Force to a 43-run victory over the United States in their latest Colonial Medical Insurance Super50 Cup at the Brian Lara Academy in Tarouba on Friday night.
Mohammed slapped 101 not out as he guided the T&T Red Force to 244 for four wickets off their 30 allotted overs after the match was reduced due to early rain.
The USA put up a brave fight but in the end, they were restricted to 201-7.
Opener Xavier Marshall was the best of the lot for the visitors, getting 53 off 58 balls with two sixes and five fours. A number of other batsmen got starts but failed to convert as the Red Force bowlers proved too good on the night.
Skipper Imran Khan was the chief destroyer with three wickets for 38 runs, as he removed Elmore Hutchinson (23), Aaron Jones (16) and Ian Holland (18).
Mohammed came to the crease with the Red Force in a spot of bother at 66-3. He started off slowly, then progressed nicely in two key partnerships to take the score past the 200-run mark and onto an impressive final figure as he got to triple figures for the first time in the series.
Firstly, he forged a 78-run partnership with Kyle Hope, who smacked 47 off 41 balls with two sixes and four fours. When Hope left, Mohammed shared an unbroken partnership of 100 in seven overs and one ball with all-rounder Odean Smith.
In the final over, Mohammed was left to get 15 runs to reach his century off four balls. And he got them in style, smacking three sixes to reach his fifth List A hundred. He ended on 101 not out off 62 balls with nine sixes and two fours. Smith was also good with 31 not out off 17 balls with two sixes and three fours.
T&T Red Force have now won three of their four matches to date while the United States are yet to win a match.
