Former T&T Red Force all-rounder Navin Stewart and Premiership player Jahron Alfred continue to star in the Chief Secretary Bago T10 Blast, currently taking place at the Cyd Gray Stadium in Roxborough.
Alfred has led his team, Buccoo Reef Divers, to four wins from four matches and they look certain to book a place directly into the final of the tournament carded for Friday night.
On Monday night, Alfred scored 31 and took 1/10 to lead Divers to a nine-run victory over a Rainforest-led Navin Stewart. Batting first, Divers made 101 for two off their 10 overs. Alfred's 31 came off 19 balls with three sixes and a four. Towards the end of the innings, there was an unbroken partnership of 48 between Ako George (26 not out) and (Aston Pierre 29 not out).
Stewart was good with the ball in taking 1/9 off his two overs. The right-hander then slammed a rapid 38 including five sixes, bringing the number of sixes struck in the tournament struck by him to 22.
After his dismissal, his side fell away and was restricted to 92/3 off 10 overs. Kevon Samuel made 26 runs off 16 balls, while Alden Daniel was too slow at the top getting 21 not out off 22 balls. Alfred took 1/9 and Antonio Providence 1/13.
In the nightcap match, Fort King George Gunners continued their horror run losing their fourth successive match of the tournament, falling to Little Tobago Islanders.
The team led by West Indies Under-19 player Joshua James seems to have gotten into the habit of losing and although they were in a good position to force victory, they fell short by four runs.
Chasing just 76 runs for victory, they should have registered their first win but it was not to be. They were restricted to 71 for three despite the best efforts of Selvin Duncan who cracked 26 from 20 balls.
The competition was scheduled to continue last night.
