The T&T Red Force continued their impressive start to the 2019 Colonial Medical Insurance Super50 Cup when they restricted the Guyana Jaguars to 187 for nine batting first in first innnigs of their second encounter at the Queen's Park Oval in Port-of-Spain on Saturday.
Young pacer Anderson Phillip advertised his wares for all to see as he grabbed four wickets for 44 runs in an inspiring spell to peg back the Guyanese, whose innings was cut down to 43 overs due to a two-hour rain delay.
With the weather around, the T&T Red Force won the toss and decided to take the field. And rain soon interrupted the Guyana innings for a lenghty pderiod, forcing the officials to reduce the overs.
Guyana were under earlier pressure with the loss of Tagnarine Chanderpaul (7) and the aggressive Chandrapaul Hemraj (21).
The T&T slow bowlers were the ones to put the brake in the early piece and with quick runs needed to post a significant score, Anderson ripped the visitors apart. The work of spinners Jason Mohammed, with 1/12 off five overs and Yannick Ottley, 1/14 off six overs, was significant in stifling the Guyanese outfit. Their combined work of 11 overs for 26 runs and two wickets was special on the slow Oval track.
Most of the Guyana players got starts but could not continue and this led to an overall sloppy display and a score that is woefully short against an inform batting team like the Red Force.
Jonathan Foo, dusted out and brought back into the fold, got 36 with two sixes and two fours. He and Ramaal Lewis, with 28 runs from 17 balls, threatened to post a competitive score but their ambitions were cut short by Phillip and the runout route.
Down at the Brian Lara Academy, the USA, playing their first match of the tournament, had to sit and watch the rain as their clash against the West Indies Emerging Players was kept back. In at the end, it was decided that play would start at 7.02 pm and the Emerging Players won the toss and decided to bowl first.
SCORE: Guyana Jaguars 187-9 (43) (Jonathan Foo 36, Ramaal Lewis 28, Raymond Reifer 26, Chris Barnwell 24, Chanderpaul Hemraj 21, Leon Johnson 22, Anderson Phillip 4/44) v T&T Red Force
