Rachel Vincent showed up with the bat and Leandra Ramdeen with the ball to guide T&T to an eight-wicket win in the final T20 match against Barbados, to sweep the two formats and overall series on Wednesday.
The teams met at the Police Sports Club in Weymouth, St Michael in the third 20-over match-up of the tour.
Barbados batted first and reached 123/4 in their 20 overs with its main batting contributions coming from Kycia Knight with an unbeaten 40 while twin-sister Kyshona Knight produced 32 and Aaliyah Alleyne added 24.
Ramdeen played her role well in limiting the Barbadians, claiming 2/17, with right-arm pace bowler Kirbyina Alexander giving support with 1/11.
Vincent matched the host team’s leading scorer with 40 not out to pilot T&T’s response. Her effort helped the visiting team achieve the winning target of 127/2 in 16 overs.
Also excelling with the bat for the winner was captain Reniece Boyce, who posted 33 and Makeila Jodhan with 29 runs.
Naijanni Cumberbatch led Barbados’ bowling with 2/20 as she and her team try to fine-tune for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in England from July 28-August 8.
The Bajans along with T&T were also using the series as preparation for the Cricket West Indies (CWI) 50-over and T20 Blaze in Guyana in June.
The T&T cricketers and staff, coach Kelvin Williams, assistant coach Davindra Singh, manager Marjorie Thomas, trainer Angel Ottley and technical director Merissa Aguillera, a former West Indies Women captain, arrived in Barbados last Wednesday and got down to business the following day.
The national cricketers won the opening T20 at the Rubis Sports Club in Spring Garden, St Michael by four wickets, led by the bowling of Lee Ann Kirby, who claimed 2-11 in her four overs.
The next day at the same venue, they put on a decent batting display to win the first 50-over clash by 44 runs boosted by an all-around performance from Steffi Sogrim. She top-scored with 36 and picked up impressive five wickets for 36 runs.
The teams got a day’s rest and returned to action on Sunday in the second T20 at Isolation Cavaliers Lakes in St Andrew and again T&T dominated proceedings coming away with a seven-wicket win. Alexander (2/21) and left-arm off-spinner Soogrim (2/28) stepped up in that encounter.
The following day in the second and final 50-Over match-up at the North Stars Club, Crab Hill in St Lucy, led by a half-century (55) and five-wicket haul (5/13) from Karishma Ramharack, the visiting side eased to an 89-run victory.
