Tobago-born out-of-favour T&T striker Rundell Winchester has been released by Hibernians FC and will continue the season with Malta First Division (Challenge League) side Marsaxlokk, the Times of Malta understands.
The T&T player forward had joined current Malta Premier Division league leaders Hibernians in the summer after a successful debut season with Gudja United last term.
However, the towering forward struggled to secure a regular first-team place with Stefano Sanderra’s side, making 11 appearances, mostly from the bench this season, netting two goals.
“We would like to announce that 27 year old forward Rundell Renold Winchester has been released by the club. During his time at Hibernians, Rundell played 11 matches and scored 2 goals,” the Premier League club said in a statement.
“We would like to thank Rundell for his service and wish him the best of luck in his career.”
Once becoming a free agent, Winchester immediately attracted the interest of Marsaxlokk FC who agreed personal terms with the players on a deal until the end of the season.
Marsaxlokk currently sits seventh on the 15-club First Divison table with 17 points from 13 matches, the same as Fgura United, and Mqabba while St Andrews is 13th with 15 points.
At the top of the table is Pembroke with 29 points followed by Marsa (28) and Swieqi (26) while San Gwann is fourth with 21, level with Qrendi.
A former player with Central FC and North East Stars in the T&T Pro League, Winchester who attended Goodwood High School in Tobago has also played overseas as Gudja United, Platense FC, AC Kajaani, Palloseura Kemi Kings and Portland Timbers II after starting his club career at Tobago’s Stokely Vale FC.
