The West Indies cricket team is currently seventh in the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Test Championship with a points percentage of 16.67.
The regional side has 40 points from two series and now with the barometer being used to determine positions being points percentage, West Indies are seventh.
Australia leads the pack with a percentage of 82.22 from three series where they have garnered 296 points. The ICC cricket committee decided this week that they will no longer go on the number of points accumulated because of the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Chairman of the committee Anil Kumble revealed that they would go on a points percentage which is a fairer account of where the teams place. At the end of the championship, the two top teams will have a play-off which is expected to be held at Lord's for the title.
There was an idea being touted that there should be two semi-finals leading to a final but this was thrown out by the committee. As it is, each country was expected to play six series over a two-year period, with the top two teams heading to the finals.
The West Indies have 40 points from two series and they will be looking for more when they oppose New Zealand in two Test matches in that country next month.
The West Indies team is currently in New Zealand where their tour ends on December 15. The West Indies A team is also on tour in New Zealand and there are two matches before the international matches with the senior team begin. Several players in the international team will also feature in the warm-ups. The first warm-up match gets off on November 20 with the Windies A playing New Zealand A. The second match is West Indies A against New Zealand A from November 26-29.
The first T20 International will be played between the West Indies senior team and New Zealand on Thursday at Eden Park in Auckland. The second and third T20s will be played at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on November 29 and 30.
The first Test match gets off on December 3 and the second and final Test will be played from December 11-15.
After this, the West Indies is likely to tour Bangladesh very early in the new year and they will be hoping to dominate there. Although conversations are still ongoing, it is proposed that the West Indies will meet Bangladesh in two Tests, three One Day Internationals and three T20 internationals.
