A 131-run partnership from Guyanese pair Sherfane Rutherford and Adrian Sukwah took the match away from T&T, as the home team fell to its third consecutive defeat in the West Indies Cricket Board Regional Tobago House of Assembly 50-over Under-17 tournament in Tobago, yesterday.
Coming into the round three match yesterday at Shaw Park, defending champions T&T needed a win to keep its chances alive of retaining the crown after losing to Jamaica and Barbados. Unfortunately, T&T fell to a 62-run defeat to eliminate its chances of lifting the title again. After losing Ronaldo Renee for 16 with the score on 26, Rutherford and wicket keeper Sukwah took control of the match. Rutherford was the aggressor, hitting eight fours and three sixes in his knock of 79 (81 balls).
Sukwah played the supporting role scoring 56 off 105 balls, which included five fours. Rutherford was forced to retire hurt, while Sukwah fell shortly after with the score on 164. Despite an even 50 from Brandon Maharaj T&T could only muster 183 all out in 43.2 overs. Tobagonian Dejourn Charles pitched in with 25. Paul and Mohamed demonstrated their all-round ability, taking 3/38 and 3/58 respectively. Round four bowls off tomorrow.+
