The West Indies women cricketers will be looking towards the heavens and hoping it doesn't open up at the picturesque Queen's Park Oval, where they will be looking to enhance their growing reputation against England in their second of three limited overs internationals.
The first match in the series on Tuesday was washed out after just three overs, but what was even more frustrating was the fact that the rain teased the girls for most of the day, before sending them into the pavilion for good at 2.20 pm.
Play started at 2 pm after the covers went on and off but they could not stay off long enough to allow enough time for a match to be played.
The look on the faces of the local girls was dour as they wanted to continue their dominance over the English girls, who are winless against them on this tour.
The West Indies won the Tri-nation series, also involving New Zealand, at Kensington Oval in Barbados last week and will be hoping to still go on and win this ODI series, which is now effectively down to a two-match series.
Yesterday, both teams enjoyed brilliant Caribbean weather, as they practiced at the mecca of local cricket. The English used the morning period and the local girls spent the afternoon under the sun, hoping it continues that way today.
Today's game is the first of two day/night matches with the other on Sunday. Play is expected to start at 2 pm and officials are hoping for a good turnout as the women's team has performed with great distinction over the past three years. The cost of entry to any stand is $20.
Checks with the Oval ground staff yesterday revealed that once there is no rain today, the match will start on time. The outfield is in great condition despite the heavy rains recently, as the drainage system put together for the 2007 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup is still in perfect working order.
