A driver employed with the Kiss Baking Company died after another motorist struck his van from behind, running it off the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway, on Thursday morning.
The incident was captured on another motorist's dash cam and shared to social media.
That video is being used to help identify the driver who did not stop at the scene of the accident.
Investigators said around 6:45 am, 55-year-old Neil Ballai, of Eccles Trace in Spring Village, Valsayn, was driving the company’s Isuzu truck. Riding along with him was 34-year-old Terrance Jagasar, of Cumuto Main Road, Cumuto. As their vehicle approached the Ato Boldon Stadium, a black Hyundai Ionic attempted to overtake them as they drove on the left lane.
As the Hyundai Ionic swerved between lanes, it hit the back of the Isuzu truck, causing it to veer off the roadway and land on its side, pinning Ballai.
The driver of the Iconic drove off and never stopped to assist.
Ballai died on the spot.
Jagasar sustained injuries and was attended to by Emergency Health Services personnel before being transported to the Couva Health Facility for further medical treatment.
Investigations are ongoing.
