The unidentified man who was shot and killed in Morvant on Friday has been identified as 22-year-old Keston Mc Kellar. His mother, Joy, is calling on the police to ensure that her son gets justice.
She explained that her son was an outpatient of St Ann’s Mental Hospital and believes that he may have had an episode and was shot and killed as a result.
“In these rounds, you can’t talk to nobody and you can’t say who, but I don’t know who and why. I just heard it’s two youth men who killed my son but everybody have children and what goes around comes right back around. God knows what went on,” Joy said.
She also spoke about her frustration with the operations of the Forensic Science Centre (FSC), “They told me to come 9 o’clock this morning and the body wasn’t brought here yet and now they’re telling me I might have to come back on Wednesday morning. I am not working anywhere and don’t have money to be up and down, so I don’t understand why they have me here wasting time and money that I don’t have.”
An official at the Forensic Science Centre told Guardian Media that bodies are escorted by the police from the respective mortuaries to the centre and Mc Kellar’s body was not brought to the centre at the time.
“That’s just how it is here. The families have to wait on the police and we can only make things happen when the bodies are brought in,” the FSC official said.
On Friday, about 4.14 pm, officers responded to a report of a shooting at LP 66 Second Caledonia Extension, Vegas, Morvant.
On arrival, they saw Mc Kellar lying face down on the ground.
He was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where he died.
The scene was processed by SERU personnel who retrieved four 5.56 spent shell casings and one projectile.
Investigations are continuing.
