The death of Keron Ross on the weekend, in a forested area off Maturita Extension, By-Pass Road, Arima, has so far been ruled accidental, but officials have noted that enquiries are continuing.
Ross, 22, reportedly accompanied his 40-year-old neighbour to dig yams in the forested area located north of his home on Saturday.
It was alleged that around 2 pm the same day, he left the man near the river and journeyed further into the forest.
It was claimed that when Ross failed to return two hours later, the man began digging in another location but became disoriented and got lost due to poor lighting.
The man told police it was around 1 am on Sunday when he was able to make his way out of the forest.
Alerting Ross’ family that he was still missing, the villagers formed a search party and began hunting for the young man around 7.30 am.
They later found him approximately one mile into the forest, motionless and with a wound to his head.
The police were later informed and recovered a 12-gauge trap gun with one spent casing inside the weapon, approximately six feet from Ross, with the trajectory line within sight of the man.
It is believed Ross was shot whilst walking through the forest, and that the trap gun was set by hunters.
